the good thing about having a photographer in your family is that they take lots of photos at family gatherings.  the bad thing is that the family photos get put on the bottom of the to do list!  this summer we had a mini family reunion of my dad’s side of the family at the lake.  i wish my dad was still here.  he would have loved driving the boats and talking the kids into jumping off the boathouse roof.

bob timberlake has his own little slice of north carolina paradise in lexington, nc.  it was such a pleasure photographing bob timberlake’s studio for our state magazine.  he has the most amazing collections of anything and everything from the old south.

this is the last crew of boys that i photographed in green pond.  watch out for this band of boys hanging from trees, eating worms, biking through the streets, jumping on beds, and splashing loads of water!

It was really fun to photograph all of these Fiddle Festivals for Our State….so excited that festival season is almost here!

One of my favorite people I’ve ever shot for Our State is in this month’s issue!  Gladys is an amazing woman with an amazing life story and she makes a mean breakfast!  I had a bit of a crazy trip getting down to Ocracoke to photograph her.  I drove the 7 hours to Hatteras and arrived at about 2 am, slept a few hours and caught the 5 am ferry so that I could meet Gladys bright and early at 6 am.  Let’s just say, at 70 years old, she has WAY more energy than me!

If you’re headed to Ocracoke and planning to stay at The Castle Bed & Breakfast, you’re in for a treat!

we love shooting for our state magazine!  especially when it features good eats in our very own tiny town of madison.  brad and ryder just “happened” to be at bob’s restaurant during my shoot.  they are sitting in the rockers outside of bob’s.   ; )

check out the november issue for our story about bob’s and the beautiful photo essay about the blessing of the hounds, by our friend and amazing photographer, stacey haines.

stacey shot this gorgeous cover!

Watch out all you middle school girls!

we love shooting for our state magazine.  we get to meet amazing people, check out cool locations in north carolina, and eat lots of delicious southern vittles!

here are two of the stories that we photographed in the current issue of our state magazine.

i had a wonderful afternoon hanging out with the boys at the barbershop.  lawrence anthony was such a sweet heart.  entering the shop had a “welcome home” feeling.  it was a huge loss to the goodness of mankind when he passed away.  i feel lucky that i got to spend an afternoon with him.

after visiting saxapahaw i wanted to move there!  this community has an amazing vibe and seriously if i did not love living on our old farm and have built in babysitters (grandma and aunt lynne) living next door i would totally move!

today is my 9th anniversary.  brad and i are going to saxapahaw to celebrate our anniversary and my birthday in a couple of weeks.  we are going to visit the farmers market, go kayaking at haw river canoe and kayak, visit benjamin winery, eat at the general store and sleep at the river landing inn…..i am so excited!
