Lovely afternoon chillin’ with the ladies, listening to Cat Power. Let me just say- this was the most stress-free wedding I’ve been to in a LONG time! It really helps to have a DREAM schedule and LOADS of time for pictures! It’s also nice when everything is at one place. It was such a treat for me to shoot close to home!
First look
Ryan’s brother, Scott, is an excellent musician. He played and sang for their first dance.
Maxin’ and Relaxin’ before the ceremony
Highlands is a quaint little town tucked away in the mountains of NC. It was the perfect setting for Marla and Butler’s elegant southern celebration.

Butler and Hudson. They are both pretty handsome guys, don’t you think?

Challenge: Get those pictures off your hard drive and onto your wall! It is a daunting task…as I well know.. the wall over my couch has been bare for the last three years and I’m a photographer! It’s really hard to choose a huge piece of art because you’ll have to really LOVE it for years. So, I decided a wall gallery is probably the best way to go for me. Here are some options that I really like:
My fav: Perfect Picture Wall. They mail you the wall template AND the frames, all you have to do is add the pics… and it’s super affordable. They have modern frames and more traditional options.
If your house is a little more traditional, Michael’s has some great wall template galleries too.
I also really love the layout of this gallery that I borrowed from Tara Whitney‘s blog. It is a great example of how to use lifestyle portrait photography in a REAL home. Thanks Tara and Visty for the inspiration! I seriously LOVE those curtains too!
So- lovely clients- please send us photos of how you’ve hung your whitebox photos! We’d love to feature them here on the blog! I’ll post some pics of the wall gallery over my couch… as soon as I get it finished!
I met Eboni + Taylor on the day before they were going to their 10 year high school reunion. They have known each other since middle school but they thought everyone from high school would be really surprised to find out that they were engaged. I’m not surprised though b/c these two work out great together- classic meets quirky!

I LOVE shooting details at the Westin!!
This was taken right before we got kicked off the sidewalk by the bodyguards for the Cincinatti Bengals. I guess they were getting ready to arrive at the hotel and it was quite a production. I mean, really, who tells a bride to leave? Guess this means I’ll have to pull for the Panthers!
You’ll never guess what EVERYONE was singing in this pic……. only the best rendition of “You don’t have to call me Darlin’…. Darlin’!” I know it’s a classic but I was super impressed that everyone knew all the words. Great way to end the night!
Congrats Guys!!!
This was Owen’s first shoot for his comp card but you’d never know it! Such a pro and a really sweet kid!
Owen is one of 5 boys! 5! God bless his mama!
So, my hubby got to come with me on my trip to Maine which was awesome! He was a great traveling companion for a tired, cranky pregnant lady! We went to Portland for a day, swung thru Booth Bay, Camden, and ended our trip at Acadia + Bar Harbor. I didn’t do a very good job at taking pics since I was mostly trying to manage my first trimester nausea but we had a great time anyway. Here are a few quick pics… Maine is ridiculously picturesque and the weather was amazing!
Tim and I- sunburned, windblown and happy- on the top of Cadillac Mountain. Cadillac Mtn is the first place to see the sunrise in the US and the views are unreal. We didn’t get up that early but the thought was cool.
